Jacquie Harcus -
I have been involved with DofE since 1995 and as Coordinator, I work with the leaders of different groups that run the Award under the Croydon licence. I also work with Croydon Adventure as well as the Croydon Youth Service. DofE is a fantastic scheme which through the help and dedication of volunteers help to give young people a good start in life. Happy in a dinghy, kayak or on a mountain somewhere... preferably with snow, sun or both!

I started with DofE in Croydon about two years ago, after instructing in various Outdoor Education Centres up and down the country and I enjoy introducing people to the wonders of what is out there. I have climbed in Europe and Britain, and get out as often as possible. When not out I can often be found with a Ukulele in my hands.

Having completed my bronze, silver and gold, I went on to become an instructor for the school through which I completed my awards. After 8 years of studying and working, I realised I had a D of E shaped hole in my life and got involved with the Croydon Open Award. That was a few years ago, and now, with the BEL Award under my belt, not only can you find me in the countryside with the participants, but also enjoying spending my free time out in the hills.

I have been involved with the Croydon Open Award for 4 years now and I completed my BEL in 2005. I enjoy taking the young people away on expeditions and giving them the opportunity to escape the town for a day. I even bring my 11 year daughter along sometimes who gives some of the participants a run for their money! I'm renowned for my scary campfire stories which never fail to spook anyone listening!
